    Hi all!

Question: we have discussed carnitine supplementation especially post workout in several of the courses.

In relation to the gut microbiome issues that we have discussed, would this be recommended or not recommended in someone who has had issues with an elevated TMAO in the past? Mine was elevated for a time but when I cut back a little bit on red meat it normalized

I was curious if supplemental carnitine had the same effects on TMAO as red meat etc.?

Anyone have experience or data in this?
    Thanks!

    Eric

Eric : in my Renology work (early moderate CKD – kidney success) this is a very real issue and one I’ve looked at closely. As you discovered it Is a meat issue- Regina Druz MD fxlCardio and part of this group assured me that vegans haven’t a TMAO issue. Kidney disease is best managed with plant Based diet (not necessarily vegan ) and yet- uremic toxins are many more than the Nephrology literary lets on- and uremic gut terrain is a hostile arena and The place to start. And along comes carnitine and choline while we’re at it. The kidney authors are very clear that carnitine isn’t a good idea due to the enormity of TMAO risk. Yet the profound nature of endothelial assault in CKD makes me wonder that :with diet changes and monitoring, the beneficial placement of carnitine could happen without hazard. Didn’t really definitely answer your question: I think we are all pondering: where da hormesis with this stuff. Know the renal status: and by the way : stage 2 CKD Is Not Normal ?: it’s in fact the place we can shine and re route easily.
