    Hi SSRP Members,

Would any of our cardiologists in the membership like to comment on the recent publication in JAMA regarding the preliminary findings reported in this study: Limiting time spent eating to an 8-hour window or less each day—a type of so-called intermittent fasting—was linked with a 91% increased risk of death from cardiovascular disease compared with eating throughout a 12- to 16-hour period, according to preliminary observational data presented at an American Heart Association conference.

I have patients with CVD asking me if they should stop intermittent fasting? I have not in the last 10 years of recommending this approach to diet experience a CVD event or die. What is the groups experience?

    Hi Kenton,

This poster presentation is probably the least reliable kind of study that can be conducted.  I ask why association studies are even done because the information taken from them only serves to unscientifically confuse the issue they are seeking to address.  This data is unreliable and should not be used to question the VOLUMES of data that support the benefits of TRE.

    Hope this helps
