    Question from @dr-siobhannewmangmail-com:

SS-31 for Renal Failure. How often do you use? Every 6 months or more often?

SS-31 works by binding to cardiolipin, a unique phospholipid in the inner mitochondrial membrane that’s critical for maintaining mitochondrial structure and energy production. Cardiolipin tends to oxidize easily, especially in conditions like kidney disease where oxidative stress is rampant. SS-31 stabilizes cardiolipin, reducing oxidative stress, improving mitochondrial function, and enhancing energy production by making ATP generation more efficient. This also helps lower inflammation and protects kidney cells from further damage.

Recent research on SS-31, has shown  some exciting results in treating kidney-related conditions like chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and issues arising from renal transplantation. Here’s what we know so far:

For CKD, human trials have shown that SS-31 can significantly improve glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and reduce markers of kidney damage such as serum creatinine. These studies also found reduced inflammation and oxidative stress, which aligns with improved mitochondrial function. The most common dosing regimen is 40 mg daily as an IV infusion for 1–2 weeks, with follow-up doses every six months. Subcutaneous dosing has also been studied, with 10–20 mg daily showing promise for chronic management.

In renal transplants, SS-31 has been particularly helpful in reducing oxidative damage and improving graft survival. Administering 0.25 mg/kg via IV infusion before transplantation and continuing daily for 3–7 days afterward has yielded significant benefits.

For AKI, especially in patients undergoing cardiac surgery, SS-31 has demonstrated the ability to reduce injury markers and accelerate recovery of kidney function. Dosing typically involves 0.05–0.5 mg/kg as an IV infusion, starting before surgery and continuing for 3–5 days.

In terms of frequency, SS-31 is often used every six months for conditions like CKD to maintain mitochondrial health and prevent further renal decline. In more severe cases or acute stress situations like surgery, more frequent dosing—such as monthly infusions—may be appropriate.

Overall, SS-31 is a game-changer for protecting kidney function. By stabilizing cardiolipin in the mitochondrial membrane, it reduces oxidative stress, preserves ATP production, and enhances cellular energy efficiency. These effects translate into measurable improvements in kidney function and health.

For acute conditions, the dosing usually falls between 0.05–0.5 mg/kg as a short-term IV infusion, while chronic conditions often respond well to 10–20 mg subcutaneously per day, with adjustments every six months as needed. It’s an exciting time in mitochondrial medicine, and SS-31 is leading the way.

I have personally experience where I combined SS-31 with high-dose Thymosin Beta 4 and Reno Forte capsules. There was a powerful synergy and I couldn’t have been more impressed with the results.

Thymosin Beta 4 is known for its regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties. There are  human studies suggesting that doses around 2 mg five days a week can significantly reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and even improve microcirculation in the kidneys. This complements the mitochondrial benefits of SS-31 by addressing tissue-level damage and enhancing the repair process.

Reno Forte capsules, on the other hand, add another layer of support by providing a blend of botanicals and nutrients designed to optimize kidney function and reduce oxidative stress. Key ingredients like astragalus and cordyceps have been shown to support kidney health and reduce markers of kidney damage like serum creatinine.

What I personally found to be effective was using SS-31 at 50 mg per day, five days on and two days off, along with 2 mg of Thymosin Beta 4 on the same schedule, and adding three Reno Forte capsules in the morning and evening, I raised a my eGFR by 29 points in just 10 weeks. The synergy here is incredible. SS-31 improves mitochondrial efficiency and energy production, reducing stress on the kidneys. Thymosin Beta 4 helps with cellular repair and reducing fibrosis, which is key in chronic kidney disease. Reno Forte supports overall kidney health with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, giving the kidneys the tools they need to heal and function better.

This addressed  the problem from multiple angles: improving mitochondrial function, reducing inflammation, enhancing repair, and supporting kidney health at a systemic level.

    I hope this helps!
