    Hi all

Hope all is well!  Over the holidays I believe I finally got the Vid   ha ha  I was down for 2 weeks – mostly fatigue, some taste changes, weakness etc. but back to normal now.  However I was curious about post infection inflammation or other changes.

For example:  I have had some knee issues for over a year or two (subchondral edema/inflammation etc.) and it was better before this but it is now flared up again despite no working out for almost 3 weeks.

More bothersome:  my eyes were getting bad again over the last 6 months or so but massively decreased acuity (mid range and distance) very fast over the last week – very concerning.  I had PRK over 15 yrs ago and just started using readers for up close last year).

Anyone else have experience with post infection visual changes and any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Eric

    Hey Eric-

I often see changes in vision in my patients with CIRS, chronic lyme, etc. so I am used to handling this.

I too have been seeing it in CoVid lately, and I uspect that the mechanisms are the same.

In my experience (and understanding) in my patients, this is due to one or both of these things: less O2 delivery to the tissues there in the eye or in the brain, or depletion in antioxidants like glutathione.

For example, in my CIRS patients… they often have to have 2 glasses prescriptions.  One for when they are well, and one for after they have been exposed to mold toxins again.  It changes almost instantaneously.  For them, I think that it is mostly about the inflammatory response kind of “gumming up” the small vasculature decreasing tissue delivery (like into the eye and brain) of oxygen.  For them… I do an acute trial of 10 min of 2L O2 by nasal cannula in the office along with lumbrokinase to sort of roto-rooter out the small vessels. Side note here: I call this “worm spit” for my patients.. which they seem to enjoy (especially the kids)… humor heals too you know! (and chronic illness often leads to too much seriousness!).  I also add GI detox for acutely binding the new toxins.  Almost 100% of the time there is an improvement same day (like within an hour or two).

While the above is what I feel is the primary issue leading to vision changes (since it usually responds to the above intervention) I have more recently learned how important glutathione is for the eye particularly. We knew this in things like glaucoma, etc.  But since CoVid, and playing with understanding the increased need acutely for antioxidants in this illness, it has become apparent the eye is extra sensitive to depleted antioxidants and these vision changes can be helped with starting supplementation.

What I am seeing with CoVid I think is more about a decrease in anti-oxidants… and so I would recommend trying glutathione as a great place to start (as opposed to the prior info on O2, etc. above.  But this would also be something to keep in mind).  Most of my patients will notice things look brighter with glutathione even as quickly as 30 min after (a good) liposomal glutathione ingestion.

I hope that some of the above helps you think about options for yourself and your patinets.

    warmly,

    Cynthia

    Hey Eric (@ejfete71gmail-com-2)

Are your eyes improving?  Or at least did they stop with the acute decline you were noticing?

I was thinking about you (and your vision!)

    Hi Cynthia

Thank you for asking and for your post!!!!  Not yet.  I am seeing my eye doc next week ugh.  I have been upping my intake of whey, aminos and NAC trying to boost my glutathione production but no change.  I will likely just order some to take as you suggested.  I’ll let you know!

    Thanks again!

    Hi Eric,

Don’t know if you caught the interview with Dr Goodenowe on the role of Plasmalogen.

I’ve been working with his approach for over a year now and have a number of patients on his Plasmalogen Oil.  The first thing everyone notices is an improvement in vision, which makes sense since the eyes are high in Plasmalogen.

You might be interested in my post about my niece and peripheral vision.  After progressively losing her peripheral vision through the early part of last year, this was the follow up post:

“This is a follow-up about my niece that I first posted in October, 2021.

After seeing at least 4 specialists about her progressive loss of peripheral vision in the later part of 2021:

They walked away with no diagnosis (even the genetic testing came up with nothing), just the confirmation that it was continuing to get worse and they had no answers.  It had reached the point where her driver’s license had been taken away.  Unfortunately, not before she sideswiped another car.  She had also started bumping into things at work.

Because getting her to “buy in” to any therapy or treatment was an issue, my sister and I focused on Dr Goodenowe’s suggestions to support her mitochondria and restore her plasmalogen reserves.  We initially started her on the Prodrome Neuro, but later on Dr Goodenowe’s recommendation switched to the Prodrome Glia.  I’ll have to check again to see how much of the mitochondria support she was taking.  I do know that they were pretty consistent in getting her to take the Plasmalogen products.

Got a call from my sister last week (they are in Colorado, I’m in PA) after their follow-up visit with the genetic specialist and the retesting of her vision.

Her peripheral vision has completely returned! This was after about 4 months on Plasmalogen Oils.

    My guess:

Once she started earning money she was living on Uber Eats and Door Dash with no supplements

Also, a couple years prior she had gone through an anorexic phase

She had possibly completely depleted her plasmalogen reserves and since the eyes are high in plasmalogen this was how it manifested.

And once her level was restored enough her peripheral vision returned.”

    Thanks Patricia!

Hi Cynthia!-  thank you SO much for thinking of me!
Not much change unfortunately.  Although I haven’t been as diligent as I should have been on using the Glutathione.  Thanks for the reminder – will resume daily dosing and see what happens.  I just got a red light and am trying using that as well.

    Thanks again!

PS:  would you be open to doing a podcast with me to discuss some therapies, strategies etc. for listeners?
