This women’s story just came to me in an email.
My Story:
In Jan/Feb 2021 I had my two Covid shots because in October 2020, I tested positive for Covid. I had no fever; I just did not feel well and after a week of not feeling well I lost my sense of smell and taste. I’m in the high-risk age group. “So that was not so bad you say, you only lost sense of taste and smell.” Daily life without any of our senses functioning like you are used to is a problem. Food and drink were tasteless, eating joyless, morning coffee ritual useless! Taste began to return some by January 2021; smell – nothing. The fragrance of flowers, herbs (basil and thyme) other cooking spices used for Christmas cooking – absent; the smell of old wood from the sun on the red stool on the east patio- not there; the varied smells from my morning walk yes, including the dog poop – empty, nothing was connecting with my brain. I could not smell the cigarette smoke from my neighbor on the patio next to me, smoke from a fireplace, anything scented, anything rotten, anything dirty or clean –food, drink, clothes, shoes, myself, this also included chemicals – bleach smelled the same as water – no reaction in my nasal passages or throat. That’s a health problem. The cause was the Covid virus shut down or destruction of the nerves in the olfactory bulb (frontal of the brain area sense of smell) and now my challenge to restore.
In March 2021, six months later, I did not want to live like this, so I consulted with an ENT Doctor who took the time to give me a printout of nutrient intake protocol for a month consisting of increased Vitamin D, Papaya Enzymes, and Cold Eze followed by handout with instructions for a protocol to retrain the brain to remember smells using essential oils. Dr Patel, Standford University, developed a program to restore sense of smell using several essential oils 2x a day, each specific set of oils for 3 months. She states. . . essential oils tend to have one distinct odor molecule. Smelling them can be a way to focus your attention on what that specific scent used to mean for you and what sorts of memories it drums up. “What we’re doing by using the essential oils in olfactory training is using the memory of them as a pathway—a sort of map through which the correct synaptic connection can be made again,” Patel explains.
In April I started the protocol. It’s July and I am now using the second set of essential oils. I have to tell you the program is working. In June I began to smell the neighbor’s cigarette smoke, and this month, fragrance from my basil and thyme plants, marigolds in the planters, the cinnamon I sprinkle on the yogurt, and last week I could smell the garbage under the sink, the fresh apples on the counter, and morning toothpaste and yes, my morning coffee! It’s working, I’m grateful and pleased with the progress- slow but effective.
Smell training to get your sense of smell back
If your loss of smell persists, consider smell training (olfactory training). In many patients, it has resulted in improved smell and taste within 12-16 weeks.Dr. Becker recommends smell training to her patients and says that “retraining your brain to what things smell like so you can remember is a bit mysterious but using the memory to retrain the neurons can work in both directions. The memory can help you smell, and the smell can help you remember.”
Smell training utilizes primary odors to retrain the nose and its nerves to come back to life. You can purchase essential oils or “just use the things you have to match that smell up with the memory of your smell,” she says.
Primary odors used to retrain your nose
- Lemon – fruity
- Rose – flowery
- Clove – spice
- Eucalyptus – resinous
How to smell train
You can probably find the things you need to smell train in your kitchen or backyard, i.e., garlic, cloves, lemons, menthols, and eucalyptus.
If you want to use essential oils, purchase only 100% pure and natural essential oils (lemon, rose, clove, eucalyptus) along with small, empty amber bottles (to keep light out) with screw caps. Dab a piece of paper with the essential oil and place it in one of the amber jars.
Smell each scent 2x/day for about 20 seconds. It’s important to only take small sniffs, just enough to pass the scent into the upper region of the nose where the olfactory bulb is located. (The olfactory bulb contains the nerve cells responsible for your sense of smell.) Aggressive smells can pass the scent into the lungs which is not needed. It’s fine if you smell train more than 2x/day.
This protocol is used by Dr Patel from Stanford and many others. My friend had COVID and only lost her sense of smell and taste. It didn’t go away after 2 weeks. It drove her crazy. This protocol worked.
Hi Khan,
I used KPV successfully with some of my patients. Hope this helps. Interstitial cystitis is a very painful condition and Pentosan is used now, however, I find KPV works immediately for this condition. No waiting. For interstitial I have even used the oral form and it worked.

- I am getting it from a source from Israel. You are right that Pentosan is better for this group. My husband had stage 4 prostate cancer with Mets to bones. I received WNT capsules, 3-BrP, and 2-DG from Israel from a very reputable source. I tweaked their protocol and my husband is cancer free. I am not an MD and most members are, so I see the need for caution with patients. I am just putting out new exciting drugs or protocols an MD might want to know is available and may want to use on themselves or their family.
Why not try Loricivivent. The trials have been amazing. I’ve used it
Oral KPV works just fine. I had a patient under severe stress as she lost her sister suddenly . 20 yrs ago she had interstitial cystitis and it reoccurred. She was on 2 KPV oral caps at night and after 3 weeks never had another symptom. I could have had her take it twice a day but it wasn’t necessary. Everyone is different. She had been on BPC-157 for 2 months.
I found it useful personally. I have a unique circumstance for using it.
RitaMay 15, 2021 at 12:31 am in reply to: System Support For Patient With Prostate Cancer Metastatic To Nodes #29567I do. I used it on my husband and can put you in touch with my source. Just e mail me. Sorry I just saw this. Been a little too busy. Many of my colleagues have used the protocol I helped develop. It’s very exciting. Hormone therapy for prostate cancer maybe show some improvement in a year and then can spread metastasis like gasoline.
Thank you Dr Seed’s for taking so much time with my patient case. Keep you posted. This patient is very motivated and has a very special relationship with me. I know she’ll be in it for the long term. I have learned so much.
