Rasonque: An FDA-Approved Drug to Treat Pancreatic Cancer

HEADLINE SCIENCE

[August 27, 2026] - The Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday approved daraxonrasib, sold as Rasonque, for adults with metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma, the most common form of pancreatic cancer and one long considered among the hardest to treat.

The once-daily tablet, developed by Revolution Medicines, is the first targeted therapy approved for the disease. It blocks RAS, a protein that drives tumor growth in most pancreatic adenocarcinomas. The approval covers patients who have already received at least one systemic therapy or who are not candidates for multidrug regimens.

In a randomized, open-label trial of 500 adults with previously treated metastatic disease, daraxonrasib extended median overall survival to 13.2 months, compared with 6.7 months for standard chemotherapy.

"This drug showed unprecedented results in an area of high unmet need," said Angelo de Claro, director of the FDA's Oncology Center of Excellence. He noted the approval came 6.5 months ahead of the user-fee deadline.

The most common side effects include rash, diarrhea, mouth inflammation, nausea and fatigue.

Revisiting a Journal Club Article, “Restored clearance of senescent neutrophils by tissue-resident macrophages limits organ aging.” Science. 2026  Why This Paper Matters Most of the senescence conversation over the past decade has centered on a familiar cast: senescent fibroblasts, endothelial cells, adipocytes, and the drugs designed to clear them. This paper, which I discuss in […]
